Candidates must prove competence in 9 or 10 units depending on personal selection:
The candidate is required to complete the following six mandatory units:
In addition, the candidate will complete 3 or 4 units from a choice of 13 optional topic areas.
Candidates will be allocated an assessor who acts as mentor and guide throughout the programme. The programme will include an induction which relates to the overall course and provides guidance on how the NVQ is formulated and presented. In addition, candidates will attend briefing and assessment for each of the units. This can be carried out within the candidate's workplace or other location or through a virtual medium.
Competence is assessed by ongoing assessments measured against the NVQ standards relating to specific areas of management. One or two site visits by the assessor may be required during the period of the programme.
It is normal for candidates to complete the programme in approximately 3-12 months, although it is possible to do so in a shorter period. Extensions can be negotiated.
A grant of £1,750 may be payable from the Construction Industry Training Board NI to registered employers on successful completion.
